Cats sometimes turn back, but there's hardly anything to worry about — especially when they eat too fast or too much at a time. This happens often when cats feed together because it creates competition: they feel they need to eat as much food as possible before others eat! If cats swallow without chewing, they often inhale large amounts of air at the same time, filling their stomachs. The rest of the food in the esophagus is usually reversed immediately after feeding. The same can be said for large quantities of drinks before or after eating.
Frequent reversals, especially when accompanied by other symptoms, may indicate physical problems. This is usually a problem with the esophagus — the oesophagus is a pipe that brings food from the mouth to the stomach.
There are a number of common health conditions that can lead to cat reversals. Pneumaticitis
Pneumaticitis, i.e. inflammation, is one of the most common perpetrators. A number of factors can lead to inflammation of the edible tube, ranging from drugs to viruses, gastric acid reversals, anesthesia, cancer or swallowing of irritant substances. Recent vomiting can also cause bronchitis due to the acidity of the stomach contents.
