An Alaskan dog in the United Kingdom, whose owner is poor and unable to afford healthy dog food, has long been thrown by “good” neighbours from the garden fence to give it food, but these are often fat pies that increase its weight to 70 kg. According to the local animal rescue organization, the dog is heavier than the fat dog that was rescued in the past and is believed to be the most obese dog in the United Kingdom today.
George, an Alaskan dog from Devon County, gained weight because his neighbours often fed him fat pie. Later, George was taken to the Plymouth animal shelter. The Deputy Manager of the Shelter, Ruth Picards, said, "Every time we take in an overweight animal, we think it's the most heavy animal we've ever seen, but after that, we have another fatter animal." It's heartbreaking because it's easy to prevent.
At present, George is fed with special canine food by the staff of the shelter, who are taken four to five times a day for approximately 20 minutes each. Ruth Pickards explains: “If it is allowed too much exercise at this stage, it will put a burden on its heart and joints, and we need to lose weight before we can train it properly”.
