The search dogs, although more robust and agile than normal dogs, have many potential health problems.
Even when they retire in a comfortable old age, they are always too quick to prevent injuries.
We've written before about a very good search and rescue dog called Kara, and this time there's a problem with one of Sunny's companions!
These dogs are among the elite international search and rescue dogs in Taiwan.
On both sides, Kara and Sunny, old search and rescue dogs, saved many people in several major accidents in the early years.
They are still being looked after by trainers.
But the pain of the day was so great that Kara was the first to die in early August and Sunny was 10 years old.
But they, as trainers, are always alert to anything that is not right.
And on August 14, Sunny suddenly refused to eat and couldn't stand up, which caused the trainer's alarm to explode!
Because Sunny is a very pain-tolerant search-and-rescue dog, and it may not show up unless it is unbearable.
It was also stated that “Sunny is not like Kara to be happy, but is always the silent one”.
After all, Sunny's foot was cut off by rubble during the search, and it was silent until it was found to be bleeding.
However, after a simple stitching of the wound, it insisted on returning to the rescue until other rescue teams arrived.
So when the error was discovered, the instructors took it to check it out, fearing that it was an irretrievable problem.
I didn't know Sunny had a tumor in his spleen and water.
In the spleen, however, blood transfusions were required for the opening, and the trainers immediately sought to donate blood online.
Despite some difficulties, he stated, “It was only recently that Carla was lost, and we will not experience such pain again in a short time”.
But because of the fact that there are three little search dogs on the team who need to eat and drink, and they don't normally raise money, the operation is too big to remove the whole spleen, and it's not enough...
So the trainer sought donations online.
I didn't know that since the news came out, a lot of people were raising money.
The trainers were greatly moved by his indication that the epidemic was not so good today, but that they were still very grateful for their generosity.
After all, Sunny's a little hero. How can he just stand by and watch?
It was a rescue dog, and now it's in return. It's Sunny's own blessing.
Fortunately, on the night of 15 August, the operation was successfully completed, and other incidents feared by the vet did not actually occur and are still under observation at the pet hospital.
Let's hope Sunny gets better soon. It's worth all the kindness and reward!
