Recently, the Royal Australian Society for the Prevention of Abuse of Animals (RSPCA) raided a dog farm in the north-west town of Benedicto and rescued more than 100 dogs.
According to Melbourne Times, the executive manager of the RSPCA Animal Service Centre, Helen Cocks, reported that the Australian Animals Association (Australia) reported that there was a intensive breeding centre in the Loddon Shire County Council, where dogs were trapped in little wire cages and surrounded by faeces.
Ms. Cox: “We came to this place and found more than a hundred dogs trapped in wire cages, and we recommend that the breeders hand them over to us so that they can be cared for and re-adopted. It's not the same.
Cox stated that it would be desirable to give up the dogs, so that RSPCA could immediately take the animals without delay due to legal proceedings.
She said that the greatest harm of the barbed wire cages was that they “injured dogs and restricted their normal activities”, forcing them to step on the wire rather than on flat ground.
The local police had been informed that the police officers would punish the farm operator. Under the Prevention of Animal Abuse Act 1986, maximum penalties for animal abuse include two years imprisonment, animal restraining orders up to 10 years, individual fines totalling $29,313 and corporate fines totalling $14,6568.
