The search dog, Luffy, was travelling between the rubble and spent only five minutes testing it to find two people in need, with excellent performance. In fact, he had been abandoned and had fallen into disarray in the shelter, but had been adopted two years earlier by the owner, Jofy, and was now the only dog in Hong Kong who had received a mid-level certification from IRO International Search and Rescue Dogs.
Jofy and his brother formed the Hong Kong Civilian Search and Rescue Dogs Organization, all of which were obliged to pay for their own training for more than 10 years, and in 2016 they were choosing the search and rescue dog, the "surveillance force", thinking that "we would like to do something for the dog, especially to adopt the dog as a search and rescue dog, and to use it as an example of the concept of "adoption without abandonment, lifelong upbringing".

Jofy saw the news of Luffy waiting for adoption on the Internet, only knowing that the dog had been abandoned, and went to the shelter to see it: "As soon as he saw it, he was lying a little down in the room, a little thin." It's amazing that when you interact with someone, Luffy shows a friendly, dog-friendly and fast-working face. Jofy said that he also interacted with other dogs that day, including one Meeks, who "we can't afford it, we can only choose one." They were also psychologically prepared, and even if Luffy failed to become a search dog, he would always be a baby child at home.
From the moment Luffy returned home, Jofy actively interacted with him, confidence-building, socialization and integration of training into life from the very beginning. Jofy remembers the first time that Luffy stepped on the rubble, “though it was still necessary to be guided and encouraged, it did not retreat, and its performance was satisfactory. It took him more than two years to train and to take Luffy to Taiwan in November 2018 to participate in an international search and rescue dog test organized by the Fire Department of the Ministry of the Interior. IRO's supposed to be learning from experience. I didn't think Luffy was doing very well.

One of the search dogs tests was “crash search and rescue”, each dog had to find two people in need within 20 minutes, and Luffy had only five minutes to complete his mission, successfully passing the A-certification (intermediate) brake, and Jofy could not help but lament with his joy, and the dog ranger who was watching learned about Luffy's whereabouts was very moved. In addition to training, Luffy flew to Japan and was the first search and rescue dog to train overseas in Hong Kong.

Luffy showed a professional face at work, but he's really super sticky. Dad, the favorite, always smiley face, and Jofy said, "I think it's my baby too. In fact, in addition to working with dogs, Jofy had other duties in the daytime, when he had been called by his brother to set up the Hong Kong Search and Rescue Club, and when Luffy had been internationally certified, he had set up the Hong Kong International Disaster Search and Rescue Team.
As to whether there is a future plan to adopt another dog to become a search and rescue dog, Jofy says that because all resources are self-funded, unsponsored and unfunded, they are not affordable in the short term, but it is to be hoped that Luffy's story will make it known that there are many "precious treasures" in the shelter, and that more people will be willing to give these children the opportunity to be trained, not just like Luffy, but that they can be very nice partners and good pets.
