Bob doesn't have any close neighbors, so when he shouts, the only thing that can help him is the goldenhound Kelsey. Bob said, "I was in a hurry to call for help, but my closest neighbor was about a quarter mile away at 10:30 p.m. My Kelsi came, I couldn't make a sound in the morning, but Kelsi didn't stop barking."
The temperature fell to 24 degrees that night, and Bob and Kelsi were lying in the snow together. Bob said Kelsey was lying on top of his body, keeping himself warm. Kelsi also kept licking his face and his hand and keeping him awake.

The MacLaren North Hospital, which treated Bob, stated that the wrestling caused Bob to break his neck and that the intervertebrae accentuated the spinal cord at this time, resulting in paralysis. However, the EMS tried to stabilize his condition and he began to recover. Bob said it was Kelsey who saved his life that day.
