I'm often asked, as a petist, how much is my leopard palace? Overweight or overweight? Here's a clear, practical guide to judgment and action that will help you to quickly judge and develop a complete response.

1. Focus on content: body weight is not the only indicator, but the body weight of the tail is not a fixed value, usually in the range of 40 to 70 grams, in the form of a visual signal from a fat reserve, but the key to health is whether the tail fat stock, muscle state and activity level are normal. The tail is the main part of the fat storage, and the tail filling usually means that there is sufficient energy reserves; if the tail collapses significantly, it is thin, it tends to indicate undernourishment or digestion problems. The assessment is based on a combination of body weight, tail state, abdominal muscles and activity, rather than on “scale figures”.

Method of judgement: How to judge whether the palace is obese, thin or normal inweight: using precision electronic scales to record the weight at the same time and place, preferably once a week, with long-term observations of trends. Observation of tails and torso: healthy tails should be full and proportional to the torso; thick, round tails may be slightly heavy when overweight; thin tails, visible contours, non-observed muscle lines. Abdominal and spinal back: exposed bones (e.g., spine, ribs) are not healthy signals and the abdomen should not be dimmed. Activity and appetite: Healthy individuals tend to have a certain degree of mobility and a steady interest in food; significant sleep addiction, food denial or agitation can also be associated with abnormal weight. The body weight range is used for reference purposes only, taking into account age, sex, sexuality and the breeding environment.
Obesity is also likely to increase the risk of joint pressure and metabolic diseases. Reasons: Over-feeding, high fat feeding, lack of exercise, high ambient temperatures or lack of activity stimulation, high frequency of feeding. Obscientities and causes: thin tails, visible ribs and spinal contours, thin muscles, deep eyeslids and poor mental state. Reasons: Ingestion problems, parasites, diseases, inadequate feeding, inadequate feeding environment (stable temperature, low humidity), stress.
Provide a complete set of response (phased, implementable) objectives: In 8-12 weeks, the distribution of body weight and fat has been adjusted to healthy areas while ensuring adequate nutrition and improved quality of life for the palace.
Phase 1: Status assessment and target setting (first week) records: current weight, tail state, abdominal muscles, daily activity, feeding and excreta for the last seven days. Set target body weight ranges: based on current weight, the target is to achieve 5-10 per cent weight adjustment every 2-4 weeks to avoid sharp fluctuations. Environmental verification: Ensure that the temperature gradient of the box body is appropriate (approximately 28 - 32°C at point Basking, approximately 24 - 26°C in the cool area; no less than 20 - 22°C at night) and is moderate in humidity, providing a shelter and area of activity.
Phase II: The total number of obese ceremonial feeding in the feeding strategy (weeks 2-4) has decreased: the total number of meals per feeding has decreased by about 20-30 per cent, the frequency of feeding has changed from two to two days per day to two to three days per day, gradually observing body weight changes. Food restructuring: priority is given to low-fat, digestible insects; reduction of high-fat foods other than high-fat cricket (e.g. some snails, some stages of cricket). Maintenance of 1 to 2 weekly small fat foods (e.g. larvae with slightly higher fats) to prevent metabolic mutation, but generally low lipids and easy to digest. Increased activities: provision of reptiles, barriers, encouragement of field activities, separation of sleeping and feeding areas to increase daily activity. Increased frequency and quantity of feeding: provide daily high quality sources of protein, ensure that each feeding is of approximately 1/2-1/3 of the ceremonial head/eye width and avoid eating difficulties. Increased nutritional density: Modelling of “intestine feeding” prior to feeding, using nutrient-rich feeds such as cricket, locusts or high-eating worms, and consulting veterinarians for retrofitted vitamin D3, calcium supplements, as necessary. Observation of digestion: in the event of ingestion (anomalous faeces, abdominal swelling, denial of food for more than a week), the increase in feeding has been suspended to stabilize feeding and examine the environment.
Phase III: Nutrition and supplementation (ongoing) calcium Vitamins for adults: 2-3 calcium powders per week (no D3 calcium powder added, and use of D3 type is prescribed by veterinary medicine to avoid overdose). Vitamins: Fortnightly comprehensive vitamin supplementation, follow product specifications and avoid overdose. Fatty versus fatty acid are used to minimize the proportion of high fatty insects; for thinners, the proportion of high protein and low fat food can be increased appropriately in the short term, while supplementing the necessary sources of fatty acid. Gut-loading feeds insects to high fibre, protein feed, and increases the nutritional value of pre-feeding insects, thereby increasing the absorption efficiency of the uterus.
Phase 4: Environmental and behavioral optimization (along with the full range) temperature and humidity stabilization: Temperature fluctuations are kept as far as possible within ±2-3°C and humidity is maintained between 30 and 40%, avoiding chronic high humidity leading to respiratory problems. Hiding and irritation: provide multiple hideouts, encourage exploration and climbing, periodically replace hiding, increase fresh stimuli and help burn heat. The timing and order of feeding: Feeding at the peak of evening activities to avoid stress or digestive problems due to high temperatures during the day.
Phase 5: The monitoring and access threshold is weighed once a week and growth curves are drawn; if body weight does not improve significantly within 2-3 weeks or decreases or increases by more than 10-15 per cent, consultations with reptile veterinarians are required. In cases of continuous vomiting, diarrhoea, denial of food for more than a week, difficulty in walking, rapid breathing, eye abnormalities and skin color change, timely medical treatment is provided. Self-assessment records: maintenance of feeding tables, weight change tables, environmental humidity records as a basis for communication with veterinarians.
Day-to-day care and common error zones avoid feeding insects with a “more and better” mentality, especially for adult ceremonials, where excessive feeding can lead to fatty diseases. Do not feed human food to the palace and avoid high salt, sugar and artificial deodorant. Instead of a long-term single source of food, insect diversity contributes to balanced nutrition. The tail is not as thick as it is, it needs to focus on the overall state and health signals, and the excessive pursuit of the “big tail” may instead mask the problem. The UVB is not necessary but useful for seal ceremonials to ensure that the natural rhythm of daylight and shadow rotation is sufficient to avoid flashes of strong light and high-pressure lights.
