After the birth of the two young lions, the staff was once very worried because the lioness did not take much care of their cubs. The female is very inward, implicit, not very communicating with humans or other animals, and the young lion, who was born in her care, is losing weight and severely dehydration. In order to ensure the safety and health of the young lions, the breeders decided to hand them over to a German shepherd named Sandra.
Viktor Agafonov, Director of the Zoo, said that the mother was treating the calf “absolutely” and even bit the calf. One of the cubs had a small wound.
Agafanov said that the German shepherd Sandra usually did not like cats, but fortunately she had taken two young lions, and she had recently given birth to eight pups. Upon request by the breeder, the dog was “temporary” taken to a wildlife park.
The mother of the young lions is reluctant to come near them, but it is also good that this German milk can help the cubs survive, and the dog's milk contains all the nutrients necessary for their normal development”.
In nature, it is less common for females to be willing to care for other races, especially lions. So far, Dejima looks like a great mother. I hope they're getting better and better.
