On 31 October, a landlord in Hue County, Guangdong, reported that the two tenants had withdrawn their rent and left their rooms full of garbage, with uncleaned shit on the ground. On 1 November, the journalist contacted the landlord, Mr. Yang, to learn that he had asked himself to clean up the house and would not rent it again.
Mr. Yang told the press that his house was idle, and in June this year his friend introduced himself to two female sales friends who wanted to rent. To help a friend, Mr. Yang rented the house to them. Two girls then asked another friend of theirs to stay.
In recent days, the property owner of the house had collected nearly two months of property charges, and Mr. Yang had called the tenant and said he would not rent it. He came to the house to see what was going on and found that the tenant had left behind nothing but a mess. Uncleaned shit on the living room, unscathed groceries such as beer bottles left on the table, groceries on the floor in the room, and empty boxes and Coke cans on the bedside table. Mr. Yang, while filming the video, was silent. He then called the janitor to clean the house.
Mr. Yang stated that he did not usually visit the house, did not know that they had pets in the house, and did not expect girls who were dressed up to be such a mess.
After the video was posted on the social platform, there were netizens who said, “Is this a robbery?” and those who questioned whether it was the landlord who kept the rent deposit. In response, Mr. Yang stated that the tenants had left without permission and had not followed any procedure. Later he contacted the tenant. Part of the loss was directly offset by a deposit due to rent owed by the tenant for six months, as well as some utilities. Mr. Yang also took over the hundreds of dollars spent on cleaning the house.
One of the tenants then settled the property charges and apologized sincerely to Mr. Yang. However, Mr. Yang indicated that he would not rent the house after the incident.
