Dogs are one of the world's favorite pets, and it's heartbreaking to see a dog need help. Recently, RRSA India received a telephone call for dog head injuries requiring immediate medical treatment.
The dog was fatally wounded. When the rescue team arrived at its destination, the relief workers were frightened by the sight of the scene. Its wounds were deep, and as a result of the infection, he could see large bones on his skull, and thousands of maggots gathered around it, threatening his life.
A maggots is a larvae stage of a common domestic fly that attracts rotting meat. Without timely treatment, these larvae can cause severe skin damage and even death to animals.
The Panel immediately learned the seriousness of the situation and decided on a programme. Before the dogs went into hiding again, they caught them using the net.
The eyes of his fear only add more emotional stress to the minds of the team members, who struggle to save the dog from the trauma it must experience. They had no choice but to act quickly and effectively; every second wasted could be another second of the suffering of this innocent dog. The RRSA team immediately captured him and took him to the RRSA animal shelter hospital. After that, further observations revealed more terrible details about his condition.
Veterinary found the entire wound surrounded by tissues. This poor little guy has multiple wounds and can barely move. He's too weak. The vet's worried he won't make it.
The vet began to remove the maggots from the dog's wounds and gave them painkillers to alleviate the discomfort. The vet then disinfects and closes the damage, applying a special ointment to help heal further. They gave him antibiotics, other necessary drugs, food and liquids to restore his energy level.
His eyes were filled with sweetness and consolation after washing wounds and dressing them. Veterinary care is done to restore its health and to give it all the medical care it needs. His wounds heal slowly, but there is no improvement in the level of behaviour and energy.
Ten days later, the dog recovered his health and was grateful, partly because of the comfort shown by his naive eyes.
And then one day, everything changed; and the amazing thing was that this animal started playing with the people around, as if nothing had happened!
Eight weeks later, the dog's head was healed. Since then, our new friends have lived happily in veterinary centres, bringing smiles to everyone every day.
