To address the concerns of the dog owner, a dog hotel was opened at Fiumicino International Airport in Rome, Italy. The owner may also choose to pay for value-added services for dogs, such as beauty, bathing or tooth cleaning, or even arrange aromatic therapy to calm nervous dogs.
Alexandra Moreli, 47 years old, works in the airport's human resources department and regularly sends a 2-year-old Labrador dog, Nina, to the hotel. Morelli said that, since she was able to take Nina to this hotel, he had been able to devote himself and herself to his daily work and to enjoy his personal travel “without any further worries”.
Marilyna Brasi, Chief Commercial Officer of the terminal operator, said that the dog hotel was very popular and that after opening in May this year, the occupancy rate was usually around two thirds. All 40 rooms were booked in August during the Italian vacation season.
Brassi said, “This project is in line with the strategic configuration of our experience of immersion for tourists ... We serve not only pet dogs but also their owners.”
Just in the month of the opening of the Dog Hotel, the Italian Civil Aviation Authority adopted a provision allowing large dogs to enter the passenger cabin of a domestic airline aircraft on the condition that they are placed in an airbox. The first flight to which this provision applies will take place in the near future.
