It was reported that a rare occurrence occurred on the coast of Pingshapur in Chiba Prefecture, Japan: four whale groups were stranded on the beach.
According to the Japanese Broadcasting Association, a man shot the four whales in the early morning hours of the 30th, saying, “He saw a whale in the ground, but the four in the same time were for the first time”.
On 30 July, a major earthquake hit the eastern coast of Kamchatka, a tsunami warning issued later by the Japan Meteorological Agency, and there is speculation on the Japanese network that whales are stranded in connection with an earthquake or tsunami.
However, the video of the whale being stranded was taken at around 5 p.m. (Beijing time at 4 p.m.) local time, earlier than the earthquake.
On 30 July 2025, at 0724 hours, an earthquake of 8.7 magnitude occurred in the open sea off the eastern coast of Kamchatka.
The Tokyo Broadcasting Corporation of Japan, in its coverage of the tsunami alerts, leaked news of whale grounding, which, given that Chiba was also an area covered by the tsunami alerts, reminded the population that it was important not to go to the ground where whales were stranded in order not to endanger its own safety.
A grouping of whales had previously been stranded, and in January 2016, four scavenging whales appeared on the beaches of Skegenes, north-east of the United Kingdom. Not so long ago, six whales died on the shores of the Netherlands and Germany. According to the analysis at the time, whales were washed up on the beach after dying in the sea.
