The “Rhino Valley” of China, which is one of the more densely distributed areas of the country, is located in the province of Yunnan, which has a protected natural area. A pair of wrinkled rhinoceros who successfully bred in 2024 in the artificial lofts were raised this year again through the artificial lubrication lubricant, and the young birds left their nests in the recent days.
In recent years, with the increase in the number of rhinoceros populations, the natural cave resources of the “China rhinoceros Valley” for breeding have become increasingly stretched. Since 2021, the Provincial Administration of the Natural Protected Area at Yunnan Bronze Blocks has been conducting an experiment of artificial enticing nests at the “Rhinoceros Valley” in China, which has resulted in the artificial recruitment of rhinoceros in 2024 and 2025 through three years of technological optimization.
On 3 July, in Yunnan Yingjiang Valley, a young rhinoceros in the artificial hoop box was ready to leave the nest.
A presentation by Yang Zu Wei, Engineer of the Ying River Care Subdirectorate of the Provincial Administration of the Cumperous Borders of Yunnan, effectively compensated for the lack of natural nests and provided technical support for the breeding of rhinoceros populations. At the same time, they provide habitats for species such as owls and play an important role in protecting and upgrading local biodiversity.
The presence of rhino, a representative group of tropical rainforests and a emblematic species, indicates that the ecological quality of tropical rainforests is stable. The Deputy Director General of the Yingjiang River Care Division of the Provincial Administration of the Cumperous Borders of Yunnan said: “For two years in a row, it is a milestone in the field of rhinoceros protection and research.”
Currently, an action plan for the protection of rhinoceros has been prepared by the Provincial Guard for the Nature Reserve at the Yunnan Copper Wall. In the future, the Authority will work in depth with scientific research institutes, higher education institutions and others to continuously improve, refine and expand the design and production process for artificial enticing boxes, expand their deployment and synchronize the restoration of natural nests and contribute to the steady growth of the rhino population.
