The pet-friendly scene, the "up and up," and it's a new wave

As the role of pets changes from being “accompanied” to being “family members”, the pet-friendly scene has grown dramatically in 2025. Xinhua reports that the July traffic rate at the Zhongqing, Chang's family hotel has increased by more than 100 per cent, and that pet friendly accommodations in hot summer cities like Qingdo, Smokey, etc. have even been booked 20 days later.

Chongqing's pet foster home is equipped with 1000 m2 of outdoor lawn and 24-hour housekeeper services, which can be monitored by the owner. The restaurant offers pet-orientated food, chicken, beef-made “concubine” that attracts nearly 30 pet dogs a week, 70 percent of the customers are young people, and even tourists from Beijing and Xi'an travel to visit. Chongqing Air has been operating a “love-in-a-class” service since July, allowing additional exclusive seats to be purchased to further meet travel needs. Experts from the Chinese Institute of Tourism noted that this trend reflects the rise in emotional demand and that future pet friendly scenes will extend to more areas.

In addition to hotels, a number of residential accommodations use labels such as “pet friendly” as an important means of soliciting customers. In Chongqing, after 90, Lee Xudong opened a foster home for pets on the theme of retrofitting, with a total of 10 foster homes with over 1,000 square metres of outdoor lawn for pets and three housekeepers around the clock, with their owners having 24-hour access to surveillance.

“Our rooms are equipped with air conditioning and ultraviolet disinfection lamps to ensure that the pets live in a clean and comfortable environment.” Li Xudong explained that it is now more than 20 days since the people's house is fully occupied, and that the majority of the people are young people.
