These lawyers come from the same community, known as the Pet Lawyers' Union, which brings together nearly 2,000 people, the vast majority of them lawyers, who are concerned with the protection of their rights.
It's an era of living with pets. The latest industry data show that in China, the number of urban pet dogs and cats has exceeded 120 million, with urban residents spending more than 300 billion yuan on cats and dogs in 2024. On the other side of the booming pet economy, however, the existing laws make it difficult to guarantee their right to life.
The contrast is significant. The emotional and economic costs of caring for pets are enormous, and the costs of hurting pets are minimal. This has been the focus of numerous public opinion events in recent years.
In March 2025, the Alliance of Pet Lawyers was born by accident from a social platform, but incubated by the inevitable tension. Today, lawyers have come together to take action against kittens and pups in an attempt to break down barriers with the power of the community, allowing the neglected emotional claims of pet owners and the contempt for the life rights of fur children to be gradually seen.
